News item from TAS Business News:

Time is ticking away for Accounting Service Providers to register under the Money Laundering Regulations

Under the new legislation, which came into effect in December 2007, any person or firm offering bookkeeping or accounting services has by Law to register with an HM Treasury appointed supervisory body, even if the service is only a small part of their overall business.

"Many people have been working as bookkeepers for several years but have totally missed that they now need to be registered and are not allowed to simply carry on to practice. Some see it as a nuisance, others as big brother taking over.  The truth of the matter is that we all have to be more professional in what we do.  Bookkeepers are an important part of the financial function so it should be no surprise that we have been included in the latest expansion to the Proceeds of Crime Act" - Garry Carter, chief executive of The Institute of Certified Bookkeepers (ICB).
